Un nouveau-né, abandonné sur un paquebot et recueilli par l’équipage en 1900.\nSur le piano de la salle du bal du paquebot, les marins découvrent un nourrisson dans une caisse en bois. Ils l’appelleront, Novecento. Il grandit dans la salle des machines, dans ce navire qui sillonne l’Atlantique. Il y vivra sans jamais poser le pied à terre tant le monde extérieur l’effraie. Peu à peu, il fait de son piano son refuge hors du temps. Il joue divinement bien, et devient le plus grand des pianistes. Sa musique représente sa famille et l’unique espace dans lequel il existe réellement. C’est le voyage d’une vie, d’une époque, d’une épopée que raconte son meilleur ami.
